What is dry oil

Dry oil is any oil that dries quickly on your skin. This refers to the feeling the oil leaves on your skin once applied. Hence, it is absorbed and doesn’t leave residue. Some common examples are Raspberry leaf oil, carrot seed oil and avocado oil.

Benefits of dry oils

Dry oils have numerous benefits. To begin, they are used for moisturizing skin. As most oils contain fatty acids that keep your skin moisturized by maintaining the water permeability boundary. This means that it will improve cracked or dry skin, and further eases the process of skin repair.

Additionally, they are used for increasing collagen production. Studies have shown that applying avocado oil to the skin, develops collagen synthesis (production of collagen) and further reduces inflammation. This further lends itself to aiding with eczema, especially during the winter.

Lastly, dry oils reduce sun damage, as they contain various natural antioxidants that will protect your skin from the sun.

How to apply

On skin: As dry oils contain linoleic acids, they help to keep your skin hydrated and maintain its natural water barrier.

To apply: After a warm shower, dry off and rub dry oils on your skin.

On hair: Applying dry oils to hair boosts hair moisturization, and reduces frizziness caused by dehydration. It also helps by reducing tangling.

On nails: Applying dry oils to your nails helps to prevent cracking or dryness.
